Der Geruch der Zweitakter-Mischung und das unverwechselbare Röhren des mal grau, mal bläulich, aber immer cremefarbenen Trabanten ist auf Deutschlands Strassen mittlerweile so selten wie ein Doktor ohne Plagiat. Aber je rarer der Anblick des Trabis, desto höher sein Ansehen. Frei nach dem Motto: Willste was gelten, dann mach dich selten! So wurde aus der zu Ostzeiten ungeliebten Pappe ein nostalgisches Kultobjekt. Den Weg dorthin erkunden zwei Volontäre des MDR in ihrem multimedialen Abschlussprojekt.
Die Autoren Duy Tran und Constanze Voigt haben schöne Interviews und viele Informationen rund um den Trabi zusammengesammelt. Diese Inhalte sind sehr gelungen, wie zum Beispiel die Fernseh-Reportage zum Trabi-Tuning oder der Beitrag zum Trabbi als Rally-Fahrzeug.
Schade ist, dass die Reise zum Kult nicht noch einen Schritt weiter hin zur Webdoku macht. Denn eine übergreifende Idee, die alle einzelnen Kapitel ansprechend verbindet und zu einer stimmigen Geschichte macht, fehlt. Alleine ein schön geschnittenes Intro würde dem Dossier schon gut tun und dem Zuschauer einen Überblick über das Gebotene geben. So bleiben zu viele Wahlmöglichkeiten und zu wenig Anleitung – und vieles bleibt wohl unerschlossen. „Leider fehlten uns letztendlich die Mittel, um es schöner umzusetzen“, bedauert Autor Duy Tran. „Ursprünglich war auch mehr Interaktivität geplant.“

Der sehr lesenswerte französische Le blog documentaire hat über den Rhein nach Deutschland geschaut und mit dem Regisseur und Webentwickler Tawan Arun aus Berlin gesprochen. Zwei seiner Projekte sind erst vor Kurzem online gegangen: Bielutin, die Geschichte einer unglaublichen Kunstsammlung, veröffentlicht auf ARTE; sowie Europa: Die Ostgrenze, bei der Tawan Arun Co-Autor ist.
