Eine Webdoku steht für non-lineare, interaktive journalistische Erzählformen im Internet. Sie vereint die klassischen dokumentarischen Erzählformen des Journalismus, d.h. Video-, Photographie-, Text- und Audiobeiträge, und ist in der Regel im Langformat produziert.
Der Name setzt sich zusammen aus Webdokumentarfilm und Webdokumentation. Die Webdoku löst die klassischen Erzählformen des Journalismus nicht ab, sondern vereint sie mittels neuer technischer Entwicklungen. Außerdem beteiligt sie den Zuschauer interaktiv am Geschehen: Statt kontinuierlich zu berichten, erzählt die Webdoku non-linear.
Wenn der klassische Dokumentarfilm ein Stamm ist, dann ist eine Webdoku ein Baum mit vielen verschiedenen Ästen. Der Zuschauer kann selbst entscheiden, ob er eine Abzweigung nimmt, oder bei dem Hauptstrang der Erzählung bleibt.
Oft bieten Webdokus dem Zuschauer einen direkten Kontakt über Soziale Netzwerke oder Platformen. Immer öfter wird auch mit der Partizipation des Zuschauers an der Webdoku selbst experimentiert.
Webdoku.de stellt ausgewählte, exzellente Beispiele für Webdokus vor. Das Genre ist nach wie vor ein Experimentierfeld, erst langsam etabliert sich die Webdoku als journalistische Erzählform. Diesem Prozess möchte webdoku.de ein Forum geben.
