Von urbanem Zerfall und suburbanen Ausgestossenen in 13 Städten erzählt das in vielerlei Hinsicht meisterhafte Out My Window. Von Beirut über Amsterdam und Montréal bis hin zu Johannesburg werden Wohnhochhäuser und ihre Bewohner vorgestellt. Alles anhand persönlicher Schicksale und Biographien. So beispielsweise die Geschichte des Mädchens Brittany, die im Plattenbau Cabrini-Green in Chicago aufwächst, einem Wohnprojekt, das seit 10 Jahren zurückgebaut wird. Allein wirkt sie in ihrem verbliebenen Plattenbau, und ihre Erzählungen machen deutlich, was ein Mikrokosmos wie Cabrini-Green für einen Menschen bedeuten kann.

Wer steckt dahinter?
Die mehrfach ausgezeichnete Dokumentarfilmerin Katerina Cizek sowie ein Team des National Film Board of Canada, unter Leitung von Senior Producer Gerry Flahive.
Was ist meisterhaft ?
Als zentrale Erzählmethode verwendet Cizek gößtenteils Audio-Slideshows, und nur vereinzelt Videos; eine gute Entscheidung, um ein hartes Thema subtil zu erzählen. Die Autorin nutzt sämtliche Möglichkeiten des Genres mit Animationen, Text und Fotos aus Bildebene, sowie O-Tönen, Atmo-Sounds und Musik auf Tonebene. Besonders sehenswert ist das sehr stimmungsvolle 360-Grad-Musikvideo Antibiotics in Havanna/Kuba.
Die Navigation zwischen den einzelnen Stationen der Webdoku funktioniert im wahrsten Sinn des Wortes intuitiv. Drei zentrale Elemente gibt es: Photos, die in einer Art 360-Grad-Panorama angeordnet sind, führen den Zuschauer durch die jeweilige Ebene auf der er sich befindet, d.h. den jeweiligen Mikrokosmos vor und hinter dem Fenster des Protagonisten. Eine Weltkarte am oberen Rand erlaubt den Wechsel zu einer anderen Stadt, genauso wie Portraits der Protagonisten am unteren Rand. Die drei Elemente sind klug gewählt, und sie verdeutlichen die Intention der Webdoku: Zu zeigen, wie eng urbane Entwicklung, persönliche Biographien und die fortschreitende Globalisierung miteinander verknüpft sind.

Der sehr lesenswerte französische Le blog documentaire hat über den Rhein nach Deutschland geschaut und mit dem Regisseur und Webentwickler Tawan Arun aus Berlin gesprochen. Zwei seiner Projekte sind erst vor Kurzem online gegangen: Bielutin, die Geschichte einer unglaublichen Kunstsammlung, veröffentlicht auf ARTE; sowie Europa: Die Ostgrenze, bei der Tawan Arun Co-Autor ist.
